Last week was my official first week off from school and it was bliss. I have actually had the time to work out, Reesi and I had a picnic, we went to the pool, we visited the zoo, and we have a clean house! It has been so fun and restful I have a hard time imagining that some mothers actually get to do this all the time, not just during the summer. Lucky Ladies!
Larry and I also purchased a bike and a trailer to pull Reesi in. I have been wanting one of these for a while, but our last subdivision was not a good place for one. It was one small block with one big hill. However, at our new place it is perfect. There are miles and miles of sidewalks and tunnels built in to cross the roads. Reesi and I biked over to the Publix complex and meet Larry for dinner at Austin's Grill.
I am getting better at "biking", but I am definitely not a natural. The first time I mounted the bike to take off with my only child in tow I was a little nervous. I realized I had not ridden a bike since our vacation to Seaside five years ago and I wasn't a good bike rider even then. Luckily my sister was watching as I got ready to take off because she had to inform me that my handle bars were turned around facing the wrong direction! I also rode the whole first ride in one gear, sixth. I about died. So I went home and read the directions that said that sixth gear is a good gear to use when you are going down hills. I have since learned to change gears accordingly and it has been much easier.
It has been a great start to the summer, but I hate to think that one week is already gone. The last day of school I came home and proclaimed, "Teachers have to start back August 4. Can you believe it?" He laughs that I am already counting down the days before the time off even begins. He insists that this makes it go faster. I can't help it. I know it will go by way too fast no matter what I do, but I am going to enjoy it while I can!
