Alien Weed Takeover

I do not have a green thumb. Whatever color is opposite of green on the color wheel is what kind of thumb I have. That being said, I do not need a challenge landscape-wise, but a challenge is exactly what I have growing in my backyard.

A couple weekends ago I go adventures and decided to rid my landscaping of this mystery weed, dubbed the alien weed by my niece, by just drenching it in weed killer. It didn't phase this weed.

This past weekend we had some friends over that informed me that what I have is bamboo, running bamboo. This bamboo apparently spreads underground, meaning if your neighbors plant it eventually everyone in the neighborhood will have it.

The bad part is that it is virtually indestructible. If I am able to kill it, then it will just come back, if it is indeed coming from the neighborhood. The only way to stop it from spreading is to dig a 30 inch trench!
Are there any professional landscapers out there with advice of eradicating bamboo or is there anyone out there with a panda bear that needs a home?

NCT

Reesi, my sister, Elizabeth, Mackenzie(two of my fourth graders who won me in an auction), and I went to see The Reluctant Dragon today at Nashville Children's Theater. Reesi loved it(I thought it was a little slow in the beginning) and we got a free hardback book from Target. This summer they are doing Friday night performances of Go, Dog, Go which we missed out on in April. This is one of Reesi's favorite places to go in Nashville and we would recommend it to anyone.

A Ball Park Through the Eyes of a Four Year Old

National Geographic Dinoautopsy is a hot commodity on our DVR. It is now Reesi favorite thing to watch. This has led to quite an imagination.

Below is how I saw this afternoon and how Reesi saw this afternoon:

Me: Baseball Park
Reesi: Dinosaur excavating site

Me: Hard, crusty dirt
Reesi: A palaeontologist's dream

Me: Rocks and tree roots dried into dirt
Reesi: T-Rex bones and teeth

Me: Dirt blowing all over me!
Reesi: A gentle puff is the best way to remove the dirt from dinosaur bones when you have forgotten your excavating tools.

Me: A huge pile of dirt clods
Reesi: T-Rex bones waiting to be put together

Me: This means a bath tonight . . . ughhh . . . but two innings worth of entertainment
Reesi: A day in the life of a paleontologist

Spring Fling

Laughing during Magician Rodney Kelly
or as Reesi calls him, Abrakadabra

He made her a teddy bear.

Running the race
After the race
Before the race

Reesi's Preschool had their Spring Fling and Fun Run today. It was pretty funny to watch fifty 3-5 year olds try to run a lap around a circle of cones. It was even funnier to watch so many of the fall. There was also a magician which the girls loved. After yard sale'n and spring flinging we are worn out!

Deal of the Day

Pottery Barn sink/stove and Refridgerator
$45
After purchasing I immediately put Reesi's old kitchen set out on the lawn to sell.
Sold for $35
Therefore, I got a two piece Pottery Barn kitchen set for $10!

The Family Business

For those of you who don't know, Larry's mom and step-dad, Karen and Van, own a pain lotion and nut business. Lately, I have been helping Karen after school, every once in a while, bottle pain lotion. Reesi loves to help when she can and earns money doing it. It's a great way for us to start teaching her some work ethic and fiduciary responsibility. She, of course, thinks she is such a big girl and is always talking about having so much work to do. What a hard worker!

Cousins

A day at Meemaw's with the cousins!

Does She Need a Sibling or What?

On Sunday, Reesi decided she didn't want to watch her movie all alone so she went and got all her kids to watch the movie with her. Afterwards, she took them to the table for a healthy snack. She will be a great sister one day.

Yard Work!

I spent Saturday working on the weeds in our yard. My sister, Julie, was nice enough to come help. She actually ended up taking care of Lyla and Reesi while I spread weed killer, fertilizer, and grass seeds. We also got sand for Reesi's sand table that has been hibernating in Karen's basement. It was nice to actually spend a Saturday at home. We have a busy week ahead of us considering Larry has seven games this week. Luckily, it looks like a week of great weather.

"Giving Little Bloomers a Haircut"

At least that's what Reesi calls it.

Does anyone know a better way to get rid of the weeds that fill our new backyard?

Remember These?

Shrinkydinks and Popples from 1986! I found these in my mom's attic this weekend and pulled them out. I think I was more excited than the girls, but they humored me and made a couple. I loved Popples!

Good Ole Rockport, Indiana

This past weekend I went home to Indiana with Reesi and my two nieces, Grace and Lyla. Between my sisters' and my old toys and all the outside toys my dad has invested in, the girls never want to leave the farm. Our day was filled with running from the crazy new puppy, swinging, go-carting, playing in mud, riding Big Bertha through the woods, and cleaning out my car, which desperately needed it. The girls also watched Alvin and the Chipmunks 3-4 times or at least the beginning of it 3-4 times. If you have seen the movie and you know Reesi's humor, then you can guess which part was their favorite. We all had a great time and nothing beats going home.
