Alien Weed Takeover

I do not have a green thumb. Whatever color is opposite of green on the color wheel is what kind of thumb I have. That being said, I do not need a challenge landscape-wise, but a challenge is exactly what I have growing in my backyard.

A couple weekends ago I go adventures and decided to rid my landscaping of this mystery weed, dubbed the alien weed by my niece, by just drenching it in weed killer. It didn't phase this weed.

This past weekend we had some friends over that informed me that what I have is bamboo, running bamboo. This bamboo apparently spreads underground, meaning if your neighbors plant it eventually everyone in the neighborhood will have it.

The bad part is that it is virtually indestructible. If I am able to kill it, then it will just come back, if it is indeed coming from the neighborhood. The only way to stop it from spreading is to dig a 30 inch trench!
Are there any professional landscapers out there with advice of eradicating bamboo or is there anyone out there with a panda bear that needs a home?

It looks sort of cool. How tall is it going to get?

Hmm, I don't remember anything on the property disclosure about BAMBOO when you bought the house!
I guess you'll have to go for sort of a "far east meets deep south" vibe for your backyard/patio?

Wow. That is so interesting. And I have so many thoughts in my head:
1. So funny- opposite of green on color wheel-- ha! LOL. Wouldn't that be a Red thumb? =)
2. Had no idea bamboo did that! That is fascinating. It sounds like a great neighborhood prank, though.
3. Why don't you let Reesi set up a stand, like a lemonade stand- and sell bamboo. I keep it in a vase in my kitchen.
4. I'm not good at "landscaping." I actually just hired a guy to start taking care of my yard. But it looks so pretty now. =)
