Special of the Week

Reesi has been waiting all year to be Special of the Week at her school. It was finally here. Tuesday Larry, Elye, and I all go eat lunch with her and then go back to the classroom for some Reesi time. Basically, the parents write letters telling them how much they love them and why and then the students go around and tell them why they love them. Reesi was just giddy. She could not wait to have all the attention. I ended up turning my letter into a book for her and read it to the class. Next, we read a couple of Reesi's favorite books, Molly Lou Melon and Officer Buckle and Gloria. The next day I brought in one of her favorite snacks for everyone: Sonic green apple slushes and apples. Reesi adored being the center of attention for the week!

Larry's telling me he lost his letter, but here is my letter/book:

You have brought me so many smiles since the day you arrived in this world. There are so many reasons I love you, but I narrowed it down to my top ten.

The top Ten reasons I love Reesi. I love reesi because. . . .

  1. You are full of joy. It is hard to be in a bad mood around you because you have the sweetest smile
  1. The silliness! I love it when your silly comes out. Your laugh is adorable and I really know your being silly when the elbow dance comes out. That is my absolute favorite dance. You can always make me laugh with the silly things you say.
  2. You are an encourager. When anyone messes up and gets down you jump in to make them feel better. I remember when I was just starting to sew this year and decided to make you a doll. The doll didn’t turn out too well. Your response was, “It doesn’t matter what it looks like. It only matters that you have God in your heart.” I hope you keep this attitude as you grow older.

7)Your love for animals. You love, love animals. In your prayers you usually pray for animals dead and alive. I remember last summer you found an egg in a bird bath. When you tried to rescue it from the water, it cracked. It broke your heart. You just went and sat under a tree and cried for that bird. You heart is full of love for creatures great and small.

  1. Your singing- You have always loved to sing, especially when we are riding in the car. You don’t always get the words right, but your heart is there. This year some of my favorites are Trust and Obey, You are my All and All, and Away in the Manger.
  2. You are already such a good sister. When we first told you that you were going to be a big sister you said, “My heart is full of that baby,” and that was before you even met her. You make her laugh better than anyone, take care of her in the back seat of the car, and always have time to play with her. She is so lucky to have you as a sister.
  3. Your love of art. You have loved art since you were little bitty. Whether it is drawing, sculpting, or painting you get entranced and will concentrate forever. I love to watch you work and to see the amazing things you create out of anything you can find.
  4. You sense of style. You love all things sprakley and fancy! But the part I love is that you don’t care what anybody else thinks of the way you dress. I will tell you that it doesn’t match and your response is, “I don’t care.” You are also quite the decorator and I love to watch you “set up.” You will slowly work forever placing things from around the house into the perfect place. You are always so proud of your hard work.
  5. Seeing God in your heart - You show God everyday by the way you live and love. You will surprise me with little things like making me breakfast just to make me smile. As I watch you with your friends, you show them the same love. You hate to see anyone sad or hurting and would do anything to make it better.

1) I love you because you were made for me. You are a gift from God and I love you just because you are you. There is nothing you could do to make me love you more and there is nothing you could do to make me love you less. My heart is full of Reesi and always will be.
